Hosting a baby shower can be fun and tiring, but maintaining a focus on the purpose can make all the details fall into place. Keeping the process simple and organized not only ensures a success, but makes for an enjoyable experience.

When it comes to celebrating the arrival of the newest addition to the family, there is no better way to set the tone and share in the excitement of the expecting parents than with a baby shower. While many think that showers are just to give or receive gifts, it’s the gifts of time and love that are most remembered. As the marketplace grows offering a multitude of objects, the trend in baby shower favors and gifts is personalization and function. Face it, we all love something that makes us feel special and we appreciate things that can be used and enjoyed.

So for both the gift giving to the guest of honor and the baby shower favors for attending guests, keep in mind that personalization is key. With this at the core, you can better maintain perspective and eliminate stress on details that really don’t matter. Make the baby shower favors memorable, the atmosphere light and relaxed and ensure that all guests feel comfortable is far more important than which menu items to serve, or which games to play.

When it comes to selecting baby shower favors, remember that there are many ways to personalize a gift and make it unique. This doesn’t mean you have to personalize each favor for each guest, but adding a little personality of the expecting parents to the favors can make a favor go from a trinket to a treasure. Doing your initial selection and shopping online can eliminate much of the running around and also provide more information about different items. You can find a host of unique baby shower favors from online retailers that specialize in everything from discount to designer, expensive, functional or purely for fun.

Baby shower favors not only send thanks to the guests for attending the event, but it’s a great way to remind them of the day shared. Popular favors include items like Baby is Brewing coffee kits, or the Love Beyond Measure spoons that come with cute heart shaped measuring spoons. These are items that can be used is something that can be easily personalized by adding a personalized sticker to the package. Other items such as personalized chocolate bars, or my favorite personalized chocolate lollipops, like those from The Shower Foundry are always a hit.

Tea is another rising trend and incorporating personalized tea bags with small jars of honey are a simple and useful gift. There are so many inexpensive yet truly memorable gifts to choose from. Regardless of what favor you choose, take the time to get details from the expecting mother. Is there a certain song that she has sung to her belly throughout her pregnancy? Or perhaps there is a favorite from her own childhood. You can incorporate a few lines of lyrics onto the name cards or baby shower favor tags.

If done right, at the end of the day, what your guests will remember is not the food or games, but the experience, of being there with the mother-to-be and helping her to feel embraced, hear words of wisdom and laugh with friends and family. As the shower wraps up, they will go on their separate ways with a memorable baby shower favor in tow and will be looking forward to welcoming the little one upon arrival.

Baby Knitting Patterns – An Idea for a Special Gift

Posted by: caldwelldiff on: March 12, 2009

When looking through your baby knitting patterns for the perfect gift for a new baby the choice need not be a challenging experience. We tend to think that new parents will have already bought everything their babies will need. Or perhaps they have other children and already have many of the things they need in their home.

A perfect baby gift in this situation is the gift of a hand knitted baby blanket. By presenting the new parents with a hand knitted blanket you show them that you took the time and trouble to make something special with their baby in mind. The blanket will be appreciated and is likely treasured for many years to come. And it is less likely to be subjected to the whims of fashion.

With the recent popular revival in knitting and crocheting, there are countless options available for yarns and fibers that can quickly and easily be knitted into an heirloom baby blanket. With so many wonderful pastel or bright colors available you can be sure to match any nursery decoration that the new parents have prepared. Why not create a wonderful unisex design which will be appropriate for any baby regardless of their gender?

A handcrafted gift is one which can be passed down through the generations and will be appreciated by everyone. It shows the recipient that you spent time and effort in making something to treasure and will be just the right gift for the occasion. Because of the time you spend in completing the gift it will be well received and will be a source of pride a pleasure for you.

When searching out your baby knitting patterns for the blanket or for stitch design ideas there are a few important things to consider. Here are some of them:

Pattern Selection — if the blanket is to be used for a very young baby you should choose a knitting pattern which is tightly woven and not too lacy. Designs with open-work allow the baby’s fingers or toes to get caught up in the design and may cause discomfort and distress. Think of this as both a health and a safety issue.

Yarn Selection — When you are knitting an item for a baby you want to find a yarn or fiber which is both soft and machine washable. Remember that baby’s skin is very soft and some yarns may be too rough. Babies can be very messy and it is essential that anything they come into contact with can be easily washed. The new parents will often be too tired and busy to spend time hand washing items. And if the yarn for the blanket is not machine washable it may end up looking very sad and tatty.

Color — If you know the color scheme of the nursery, or even the sex of the baby, matching and choosing colors is easy. If not, use your imagination and create a wonderful unisex blanket full of color.

Blanket Size — When you are knitting for a baby, you may feel inclined to make a very small blanket. However, babies grow very quickly and sooner than you realize they are toddlers. Babies tend to move around a lot and require a decent sized blanket to keep them covered up and warm. Your blanket will get much more use if you make it a bit larger than the size you first thought. This will allow it to be used as baby grows.

NO Beads — While beading is popular in today’s knitting and crocheting patterns, beads are not appropriate for baby knitted items. The beads can loosen and they then become a choking hazard.

Keep these simple considerations in mind and you will be well on your way to knitting a keepsake baby blanket which will be cherished for many years to come. As with any baby gift, you will want to ensure that the blanket is safe and appropriate for the baby who will be using it. Use your imagination and creativity when searching for baby knitting patterns, remember the things to avoid and you will find you have the perfect, safe design for the new arrival.

Baby Shower Gifts Hit The Big Time

Posted by: caldwelldiff on: March 8, 2009

Tabloids are full of details of the latest and biggest baby showers. Celebrity moms talk about all the great gifts they receive from their friends. As a result, mothers now expect nothing less than the best when it comes to baby shower gifts. Many of them even make up gift lists. That leaves little room for spontaneity in picking and giving baby shower gifts. And though some may view it as materialistic, a lot of mothers are beginning to see that these gifts are very important items.

Bigger And Better

As celebrity mothers try to outdo one another with lavish and extravagant baby shower gifts, so too does the public in general. The pressure to give the best baby shower gifts has increased in today?s society. The tendency to one-up each other in baby showers has become more prevalent. Mothers just used to ask small gifts like clothes and toys. Now very expensive jewelry and decorative products are not unheard of. And imagine, that is for a person who does not even have any concept of money yet. Maybe the mothers are more obsessed about it?

Gift lists are becoming more and more common. Usually, these are not prepared by the mother herself but by friends and family who are holding the party for her. It is actually an emerging social trend. Demanding gifts seems like a social faux pas, but it is becoming commonplace. Talk about changing times!

It Is Also Convenient

There are many cases where the mother does draw up the gift lists. This is usually because she has had no time to prepare for her birth. She is usually too busy with her own career. But this is usually not the case. The expectant mother is usually not involved in this process. Whatever the reason, the trend has become very widespread. The media hype given to celebrity babies has contributed a lot to this.

However, it is considered socially defective to throw your own baby shower. So to avoid any nasty comments, a mother must not plan such a thing. She should rely on friends and family to help her set up the occasion. She can rest assured that they will do so. Few events are as momentous as a woman having a child. If her friends and family care about her at all, they will certainly celebrate it.

Baby shower gifts have gone a long way from mere presents. They have become an entire social ritual all to themselves. The media can take the credit for this. Also, increasing sophistication in the consumer culture has contributed to this phenomenon. Gone are the days when a simple bib would suffice. Now, one has to deal with online gift lists and the like. This is another example of information technology creeping into every corner of our lives. Let us hope the little tykes do not get sick of all this by the time they grow up. Just imagine what they are going to have to deal with!

Unusual Baby Names

Posted by: caldwelldiff on: March 5, 2009

Parents, increasingly, are thinking up unique names for their children. An exotic association apart, there is at least one constructive advantage to this. An unusual name helps to confer exclusivity, helping the owner to stand out and be recognized more easily. Think about how easy it is to remember a ‘Terranova’ from a crowd of Marys and Janes.

However, choosing an unusual baby name requires some care. How can you choose a name that is distinctive, yet does not end up sounding ridiculous? Of course, you don’t want your child to be at the receiving end of all the Waynes and Dylans in his school. Here are a few tips:

1. Check what’s out there. Start by looking up popular baby names listed in parenting books and websites. Along with the more familiar ones, you will also find some unusual baby names that you have rarely heard before, and that will catch your fancy.

2. Old is gold. Many old names that were quite popular until recently have now fallen out of favor. Research names in historical archives or literature, or dig up some of the unusual names from your own family records.

3. Read the glossies. Celebrity baby names are another good source for distinctive names. The advantage here will be that though the name will be unusual, it will have built up some level of familiarity and acceptability because of the media coverage. The disadvantage, of course, will be that the name may end up becoming too popular, thereby losing its novelty factor.

4. Get the spelling right. Be careful about using an unusual baby name that is simply a popular name cached in a new spelling-such as ‘Jaysonne’ or ‘Jayesun.’ This will of course sound phony, considering that the pronunciation will remain plain old ‘Jason.’ More importantly, your child may even have to face ridicule from others on this account.

5. Avoid strange combinations. Also, resist the temptation to create an unusual baby name by stringing together two or more names, such as ‘Branjelina’. Unless done sensibly, such a name will probably sound outlandish or gawky.

Dozens of Baby Shower Themes

Posted by: caldwelldiff on: March 1, 2009

Choosing baby shower themes is the first step in planning a baby shower. Or, you may choose not to have a theme at all. However, having a theme for your baby shower should make the party entertaining, fun, and a memorable experience.

Before picking a shower theme, decide on what your baby shower guests would find enjoyable. Put yourself in their shoes and think about what you would want to do if you were the baby shower guests. Themes for your baby shower are time savers by providing a focus on the baby shower party.

The theme you decide on will determine everything else about the baby shower. The location, whom to invite, what kind of baby shower decorations, games, food and beverages.

You also need to determine if the baby shower will be before the baby arrives or after.

One of the themes that the Ladies would like would be a tea theme party. There are tea gift baskets that would work well with a tea theme party. Not only can Gift Baskets provide the theme for the baby shower, they can double as a centerpiece for your table decorations. Creating a Stunning Baby Gift Baskets

Posted by: caldwelldiff on: February 25, 2009

A gift basket is a great gift to give when you’re stumped for ideas. You’re not sure how many strollers, front packs, sleepers etc. Mommy has? No problem. Throw a lot of things that you’re sure she’ll like, and present them in a large basket that will be the center of attention on the gift table. Gift baskets never run out of favor, because they are like so many gifts in one. The feeling of anticipation when you open a gift basket to reveal the treasures inside is priceless.

The secret to giving a great Baby Gift Basket is the sort of baby gifts you throw in there, of course. The more thought you put into making Mommy’s job easier over the next few months, the more she’ll thank you for it.

Baby care essentials like baby soaps, shampoos, creams, lotions are always a hit. So are clothes, bibs, booties and other cute gear for the little lot. But no matter what you choose to stock your gift basket with, make an extra effort to finish it in style.

To create a great looking gift basket, first buy a Moses basket or any other type of basket. A cute printed pail will look really cheerful stocked with goodies. Next, cut 2 yards of cellophane and place the basket on it in the center of the cellophane paper. Place paper towel or napkins at the bottom of the basket. Begin placing your baby gifts in the basket. The tallest gift should be placed in the center, the smallest in the middle and the medium sized one should line the edges of the basket. Scatter a few wrapped candies or even gourmet chocolates to pamper the young Mommy. Now, pull up the sides of the cellophane, and tie into a twist.

You can add any number of things to finish your Baby Gift Basket in style. Attach a bright snazzy bow to jazz things up a bit. Use pretty satin ribbon in pink and blue to finish the basket with grace and elegance. A large basket will need a large bow and a small basket will look dainty with a small sized bow attached. Or fix a little trinket to the tie twist with a little glue to glam up the basket.

A perfectly finished basket will be the cynosure of all eyes on the baby shower favor table.

When people are looking for a cheap diaper bag they are usually looking for one that is

  • well made
  • provides great value for mom and dad
  • helps mom and dad to be super organized
  • is priced at less than $70

Here are some things to consider when looking to purchase a cheap diaper bag.

  1. Super organized – look for one that has plenty of places to store items such as diapers, wipes, a change of clothes and little baby toys. It is also helpful if it has an insulated bottle holder – to hold baby’s milk or water bottle when you are out and about. Having a bag where everything is organized means that you change baby in matter of seconds – not minutes.
  2. Built in change pad – there are diaper bags on the market that provide you with the flexibility of a built in change pad for changing your baby. Imagine how great it would be to be able to unfurl a built in change pad virtually anywhere… in a washroom, on a picnic table, almost anywhere.
  3. Good value – since you are looking for something inexpensive, cost is a consideration. Look for one that is well made, is well priced (under $70) and provides great value for mom and dad. A good indicator is the product’s warranty. Look for one that has at least a 2 year warranty.
  4. Has a cool look – just because you want a cheap diaper bag it doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice style. Look for one that will look good on you when you are carrying it. Try to purchase one that is designed for women and men alike. That way either mom or dad can carry the bag and show the world what a great parent they are. How fantastic is that!
  5. Flexible carrying style – buy a baby bag that is not only functional but has the flexibility to be used as a back pack, or to sling it over your shoulder, or to hang it from a stroller.

A cheap diaper bag (price-wise) built with high quality that meets all of the above criteria is the GR8X Baby Traveller (Traveler) diaper bag.

Finger Licking Awesome – Baby Shower Party Food

Posted by: caldwelldiff on: February 18, 2009

What kind of party is complete without great food? From sumptuous chicken to delicious baby-back ribs, every kind of party has its own special selection that’s called for in every celebration. And if you’re the host, it’s always the best thing to make the cuisine reflect the kind of celebration you’re having, be it a a black-tie affair or a lounge in the back yard. If you’ve got the right food, expect your guests to be staying until the wee hours of the morning with smiles on their faces and a much bigger waistline.

But what kind of food should you serve for a baby shower? Admittedly baby showers aren’t the most formal of events. So does that mean that you should settle for cheeseburgers and fries as the best thing you can serve your guests? Of course not! Although this is a laid back kind of celebration, it isn’t exactly the Superbowl either. So what to do with the preparation of finger foods in order to keep your guests coming back for more?

You can prepare some easy to eat but classy kinds of food that everyone can enjoy munching on. For treats on a glass, go for the shrimp cocktail. You can make this by mixing together two cans of shrimp with a can of tomato juice, a tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce, four tablespoons of horseradish, three tablespoons of lemon juice, a bottle of ketchup, a cup of celery and some salt and sugar, and letting it chill overnight. This is best served in wine glasses and with a spoon!

You can also try treats like tortilla roll-ups. What you do is you get chilies, cream cheese, and olives, blending them well. Then get four tortillas, with a slice of ham on them and spread the mixture over them. Afterwards you roll the tortilla and cut them up like cinnamon rolls. A toothpick for each slice should finish the job!
